Happy New Year!

Standard

Ahhhh we are already 3 days into the new year and I can say that I have stuck with two of my resolutions!! I think that is the longest I have made it 🙂 What are those two resolutions you ask, you didn’t but just play along with me….

#1 Give up Drinking Pop!
For a long time I didn’t consider my self a pop drinker, I rarely bought a 12 pack to keep at the house and usually only drank it when I went out to eat. But then slowly I started drinking more and more and then I would stop at the gas station almost every morning to buy a bottle (or two if we are being honest) and it just got out of control. So to better my body & my wallet I have resolved to give up drinking pop in 2017. I asked a group that I am part of what they suggested to kick my habit and there were lots of good suggestions. I have decided to try an alternative “fizzy” drink, teas and just more water.

#2 Get to ONEderland!
Onederland is the magical place of being in the 100’s on the scale. It has been some time, about 7 years, since I have been there and I can’t wait to be back. For the month of January I have decided to try and get in 200 miles, tracking with my Fitbit I figured I need to do about 13, 000 steps a day (2000 steps = 1 Mile). I recently upgraded to the Fitbit Alta and love it, my favorite feature is that it displays text messages & phone calls. To help me track my miles I have this paper hanging in my office to mark off my miles every day. You can print off one for your home too, just click 200-miles-january

I am a visual person, so I finally created a vision board. So far I have on there my 200 miles tracker, my spirit animal Skinny Meg and some drawings from my daughter. If you haven’t heard of Skinny Meg I recommend checking her out and ready some of her old blog post, I have been reading her blog for a few years and truly is an inspiration for weight loss, healthy eating and just all around a good person.

I do have a few other New Year’s resolutions and to keep me on track for the year I have assembled the dream team my Vision Planner, Daily Planner & Goal Book, like I said I am a visual person. This is my second year using the Bloom Vision Planner it is like a normal planner with your monthly calendars and weekly views but then they have Monthly Vision Boards. The Daily Planner I use a few times a week, sometimes I just keep a running grocery list on it, but I find that when I just need to write things out and put them into perspective for the day this really helps. And last I have this little Goal Book that I picked up at Michaels, this one is new to me so I will see how it works out pretty much it has a place for your top 10 goals, weekly goal planning and goal motivation. I’ll let you know how helpful this is later on.

My Favorite Place in the House

Standard

First of all I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas! For us Christmas is always a whirlwind, all of our family lives within a 10 mile radius of our house, so we have to be at every event. We don’t always get time to just enjoy the holiday but I am forever greatful to have the amount of family we have and cherish the time we spend together at Christmas as I know it won’t be like this forever. So I will drive and make every it to every single one of those events as long as they are going on, even if I feel like I have just completed a marathon at the end of the day. I did manage to find a few moments to escape to my favorite place in the house to start thinking about my goals for the next year. More on those goals next week, today I want to talk about my favorite place int he house. Up until a  year or so ago I had no place in the whole house that was just for me and it was starting to get to me. I needed a place for me, just me, a place to escape to for just a minute, a place that the kids (and husband) don’t make a mess in, a place for me to just be. My options were very limited it was either make room in the basement (think old farmhouse basement, cement walls & spider webs) or the tiny room at the top of the stairs, I went with option two.

The room at the top of the stairs was far from my favorite place, it has over the years become the room where things come to die!! You know those things you aren’t quite sure what to do with, but you can throw them away? And then you just start throwing things in the room as you walk by. And then you start to avoid eye contact with the room becuase you don’t want to think about ever cleaning that room out. Yeah we all have that room and I was going to make it my place.

It took me a couple of weeks to get it all cleaned out and organized, then all it took was some paint, a new rug, free chair and some Pinterest projects and I now have my favortite place in the house!

Ahhhh, my room, my office, my favorite place in the house. Doesn’t it look great?!?! The kids do hang out with me in there sometimes but no toys can be left and they must pick up after themselves otherwise no entry! I kid, I kid…. or do I….

Next week will be the new year, which means time for some goals to be made and manifested here on the blog, until then…

Shower Organization

Standard

About 5 years ago we decided to remodel our bathroom, best thing ever! We went from a tiny, tiny bathroom that you could litterly sit, shut the door & wash your hands all at the same time, to a very spacious bathroom with a large soaking tub!

Yes, there is a TV in the bathroom.

I did have to sacrifice moving the laundry room to the basement but that was ok. Also with getting this grand tub it meant the shower would be separate, we used to have the tub/shower combo. That was all fine and dandy until I realized that I had no room to put all my shower necessities! I tried to persuade my husband to get a fancy shower with a built in shelf, but all he needs is soap and a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner and he good, lets just say he didn’t see the need for the shelf.

He doesn’t undstand what all goes on when a women takes a shower, I need my shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, face wash, face mask, body wash, body lotion, shaving cream and a razor at the very least! I suffered for years with the two tiny shelves that each held one bottle, a suction cup basket that fell down every other day and vast array of products scattered around the floor of the shower.

Then I decided to do something about it. Like most projects I do, I did it on a whim. So I set out to good old Menards and Wal-Mart (the only stores within 30 miles of my house) to find what I needed- a shower pole and some baskets.

I couldn’t quite find the baskets that I envisioned, so shower curtain hooks were also needed. I chose these baskets for two reasons 1) they are cheap, $2 and 2) they have holes to drain the water, however they are a little bit wider then I would have liked. One tip before heading out to the store…measure what size shower rod you need. Argh off the the store I go again.

Minor set back, because the end result was so worth it.

Look at how organized everything is! Now that I have had my shower like this for a while I am overall happy with the end result, I could get away with just two baskets (sometimes I bump into them) and I am going to invest in a curved shower rod to give you just a little more room.

Happy New Year!

Standard

With the new year comes resolutions and like always my first one it to lose weight. Most years I am pump and motivated at this time and get a good start on things. This year I am just not into it. So I have decide to take up a new project/resolution … a Playroom Makeover!!  This summer I got rid of my dinning room set so the kids could have that room as a playroom, really I should just call it “the room you throw all your toys in” because that is what is looks like!!!

Messy Play Room

Messy Play Room

That room had gotten out of control! First plan of action is to clean everything out of that room. Done!

Now my ideas for the room include, a stage, dress up clothes storage, a reading area, a Declan (aka boy) area and Vivian/Art Area. I have already purchased most of the items and have been doing some painting so hopefully in the next two weeks it will be complete!
